Experience Roadmap
This activity helps you maintain focus on your stakeholders’ experiences while defining the “minimum positive impact” of a service or offering. By scoping complex, visionary ideas into attainable near-term outcomes, experience roadmaps can help prioritize essential services.
Example Scenario: Create a roadmap for transitioning to virtual programming.
Instructions:
Set up the roadmap:
Draw three columns on a whiteboard or large sheet of paper. Label them “NearTerm,” “Mid-Term,” and “Long-Term.” Write the statement “Our user can/Our user will be able to...” at the top.
Define long-term vision:
Brainstorm and write down ideas related to your long-term vision in the “Long-Term” column. Start each idea with “Our user can...” or “Our user will be able to...” to center their needs, wants, and experiences.
Adapt for mid-term and near-term:
For each long-term idea, ask, “What is the most vital aspect of this?” Use the answers to define ideas for the “Mid-Term” column. Repeat to define “Near-Term” ideas as well.
Prioritize and refine:
Discuss the ideas and adjust their placement in the columns, aligning on what needs to be implemented earlier or later.
Notes:
For each column of the experience roadmap, define what you expect to learn from stakeholders, the offering, etc. during that particular stage.
Consider inviting a Co-Creation Council to collaborate on your experience roadmap.
